Man arrested for alleged robbery at knifepoint; police still looking for accomplice

The police have arrested a 37-year-old man for an alleged case of armed robbery in Jurong.

On June 26 at about 1am, a young couple was walking along International Road, when two unknown men confronted them with a knife. The duo robbed the victims of a wallet and mobile phone before fleeing on their bicycles.

The 37-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday at about 2.30pm in Benoi Sector. The police also managed to recover the stolen mobile phone. Efforts are underway to track down his accomplice, the police said in a media statement.

If convicted of armed robbery with common intention, the man faces between three and 14 years in jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
