Man arrested after throwing bicycle and household items from third floor

A 58-year-old man was arrested on Thursday afternoon for throwing items from the common corridor and kitchen window of his third floor unit.

Close to 1pm, the police were informed that a bicycle and other household items had been thrown from a block along Bukit Merah View.

Officers from the Clementi Police Division were able to identify and arrest the man responsible through enquiries and information received from a member of public.

The police said in a statement that a court order will be sought to remand the suspect for psychiatric assessment at the Institute of Mental Health.

If convicted of committing a rash act, the litterbug could face a prison term of up to six months, or a fine of up to $2,500, or both.

The commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, thanked the member of public for coming forward with information.
