Man accused of filming women in church toilets

A former church worker was yesterday charged with more than 60 counts of filming women in the toilets of a church and its office.

Kenneth Yeo Jia Chuan, 26, faces a total of 68 charges, of which 66 are for insulting the modesty of women over a 31/2-year period.

He is accused of using a pinhole camera device to film women in a handicapped toilet in the Church of Singapore (Bukit Timah) in Hindhede Road and in a unisex toilet at the church's office at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre.

Yeo worked at the church as a technician handling IT and building maintenance matters for two years until he left in June 2010.

The video clips were supposedly taken between April 2008 and October 2011.

The two remaining charges that Yeo faces are for possession and attempted sale of obscene films.

He is believed to have had two obscene films of two women, aged 17 and 22, in his laptop when the police raided his flat in Clementi Avenue 4 on June 29 last year.

Two days earlier, he allegedly tried to sell obscene films that he recorded online for $50 to $70 each.

District Judge Ronald Gwee granted a request by Yeo's lawyer, Mr Lee Wei Fan, to make representations.

The bespectacled and slightly plump Yeo, who is currently working as a salesman, will return to court on Oct 11.

His police bail of $5,000 has been extended until then.

If convicted, Yeo faces a jail term of up to one year and/or fine for each charge of insulting modesty.

For having an obscene film, the maximum penalty is 12 months' jail and a $40,000 fine.

The maximum penalty for attempting to sell an obscene film is three months in prison and a fine.
