Man, 23, jailed three weeks for hitting wife, causing fracture in her eye socket

A man who punched and kicked his wife several times on the face and body was jailed for three weeks on Wednesday.

Sim Yi Ming, 23, pleaded guilty to causing hurt to Ms Agnes Cheng Li Ting, 25, who suffered a fracture of the right eye socket during the incident at their home in Toa Payoh on March 9 last year.

The court heard that Sim had returned home drunk at about 1am that day after a company function. He wanted to speak to his wife who was asleep in the bedroom with their two-year-old daughter. But she refused as she was unhappy that he had returned home drunk. Sim got angry and started to shout at her.

During a dispute, Sim punched and kicked his wife several times on her face and body.

At about 7am, he woke up and was shocked to see the injuries he had inflicted on his wife. He brought her to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment.

Sim, who said he had just found a job, has a previous conviction for disorderly behaviour. He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000 for voluntarily causing hurt.
