Major seizure of drugs worth $353,000, eight suspects arrested

Anti-drug officers nabbed eight suspects - four Singaporeans and four Malaysians - and seized over $353,000 worth of drugs in an operation on Thursday.

At about 1.50pm on Thursday afternoon, Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers observing a suspected drug courier at Tuas South Avenue 8 saw two men arrive in a taxi to meet the suspect. One of the men boarded a trailer parked nearby with the suspected drug courier. The duo, who arrived in the same taxi, then left in another cab.

About half an hour later, CNB officers intercepted the taxi and seized a block of cannabis weighing just under 1kg that was on them. The two men, a 19-year-old and a 49-year-old, both Malaysians, were arrested.

Simultaneously, officers swooped in on the drug courier, arresting the 32-year-old Malaysian. CNB officers established that more drug traffickers were expected to meet the courier, and another five suspects aged between 21 and 41 were arrested in a follow-up operation.

In total, over 2.5kg of heroin and 2kg of cannabis were seized, together with more than $13,000 in cash. The suspects are being investigated for drug trafficking.
