M1 launches first Wi-Fi roaming service in Singapore

M1 has launched Singapore's first Wi-Fi roaming service across more than 120 countries for its postpaid mobile customers.

There is no service registration fee or monthly subscription. Users only pay upon successful connection to Wi-Fi hotspots through a smartphone and tablet app, M1 WiFi Roaming.

Charges are capped at $12 per day when roaming withing Asia Pacific. Roaming in America will also cost $12 per day, but users will be charged $19 per day for the rest of the world, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

The app can be downloaded from Google Play Store or iTunes. Users must set up a user profile via the app before traveling overseas.When overseas, users must launch the app to locate and connect to available Wi-Fi hotspots, managed by M1's partners.

Customers can log on with multiple devices at the same hotspot through the app.

"This will provide both retail and corporate users an affordable and fuss-free option to stay connected when they travel", said Mr P. Subramaniam, Chief Marketing Officer, M1 Limited.

M1's new Wi-Fi Roaming service complements its existing suite of 3G data roaming services, unlimited 3G data roaming capped at $15 per day and promotional data roaming rates at $0.05 per 10kb in popular destinations like Hong Kong.
