Details of concessions to make transport fares more affordable for low income workers and the disabled will be announced on Thursday, together with the Public Transport Council's (PTC) decision on the fare adjustment, said Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Mr Lui said he has told PTC chairman Gerard Ee that "the Government was ready with our package for the low-income workers and persons with disabilities". The two concession schemes will be fully funded by the Government.

Mr Lui said the discount for low-income workers will bring their fares to "roughly about the levels they were some 10-15 years ago", while the discount for the disabled "would be even more significant".

He noted that there may be others who need help besides those covered by the two new concession schemes. He said public transport vouchers to support these commuters will be available throughout the year.
