Lianhe Wanbao raises more than $140k for charity in conjunction with 30th anniversary

Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao has raised more than $140,000 for charity, in celebration of its 30th anniversary to thank readers and give back to society.

For every copy of Lianhe Wanbao sold from February to May, its sponsors donated one cent to the charity drive.

Yong-en Care Centre, the fourth and final beneficiary for the charity campaign, received a $33,000 cheque from the newspaper's editor Chua Chim Kang at their Smith Street premises on Thursday. The newspaper has made donations to other charity organisations, including the Singapore Buddhist Lodge and Marine Parade Family Service Centre.

Lianhe Wanbao was established in 1983 and places a special emphasis on human interest stories and community happenings.

The paper plans to launch its digital version in late August.
