For a $10 donation, visitors to a pop-up cat cafe at The Garden Slug, a restaurant in Telok Kurau, could get their purr-traits taken yesterday with cats rescued by the group Love Kuching Project.
The group's cattery in Joo Chiat cares for 10 to 20 felines at any one time, and is supported by around 50 volunteers. They help to clean and feed the cats every day and are trained in clinical treatments like wound care and fluid injections.
Proceeds from yesterday's event will go towards operations of the cattery.
Love Kuching Project was founded by Ubi residents Elaine Chiam and Andy Koh in 2009. It was registered as a society in 2013.
In the same year, it started an outreach team that works with organisations like Club Rainbow, which provides services to chronically ill children and their families; and Thye Hua Kwan, which operates a hospital and welfare homes. They conduct cat-assisted therapy, allowing patients to interact with cats.
