SINGAPORE - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan is leading a Singapore delegation to an aviation forum in Canada from Monday (Sept 26) to Oct 7.

This is the second International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) World Aviation Forum and the 39th Session of the ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada.

At the assembly, transport ministers and civil aviation officials from around the world will address civil aviation policy and regulatory issues. The assembly will also hold an election for the 36-member Council of the ICAO, to which Singapore is seeking re-election.

This is Singapore's 50th year as a member of ICAO, said the Ministry of Transport in a press statement on Monday.

"In addition to the ICAO Council, Singapore is also a member of the Air Navigation Commission, a technical advisory body to the ICAO Council, and actively participates in over 100 ICAO expert bodies and leads in 18 of these, to advance the development of international civil aviation," said the ministry.

While in Montreal, Mr Khaw will meet ICAO office holders including Dr Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, president of the Council of the ICAO, Dr Liu Fang, secretary-general of the ICAO, his counterparts from ICAO member states, and other civil aviation organisations. He will discuss with them civil aviation and other transport issues and developments.

Mr Khaw will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
