Underneath a sky dotted with kites, children are doing cartwheels on the grass while couples enjoy a romantic sunset picnic. Occasionally, a family of otters makes a guest appearance, adding to the charms of the Marina Barrage, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in October.

The barrage has become a popular hangout in the heart of the city for locals and tourists alike. But many forget that its main purpose is to serve as an additional water supply source and it is an important means of flood alleviation.
