Jailed for molesting girlfriend's daughter

A salesman who molested his girlfriend's 14-year-old daughter was sentenced to 12 months' jail yesterday.

The 53-year-old man admitted to using criminal force to outrage the student's modesty by putting his hand into her shorts and panties and touching her buttocks. He also touched her breast from the outside of her T-shirt on July 25 morning. A second similar charge was taken into consideration during his sentencing.

The man and the girl were not named to protect her identity.

The man had been the boyfriend of the girl's 43-year-old mother for 10 years, and was living with her and her two daughters for the past eight.

Investigations revealed that on July 24, the two girls had to sleep in the same bedroom as their mother and her boyfriend to make room for relatives staying over in the flat.

The girls slept on a mattress on the floor.

The next morning, the man became sexually aroused when he awoke and saw the victim sleeping.

Touching her buttock from the outside of her shorts, he became emboldened as she did not rouse. He then inserted his hand into her shorts and panties and touched her buttocks.

When the girl turned around, he quickly removed his hand from her shorts. Believing that she was still asleep, he then touched her breast, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Allison Phua.

The girl made a police report two days later.

The court heard that she and her mother had forgiven him, and that her mother wants to marry him after he gets out of prison. The accused, who could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined, was allowed to defer his sentence until next Wednesday.
