SINGAPORE - The Istana grounds will be open to the public between 8.30am and 6pm on Sunday (May 1) in celebration of Labour Day.

There will be dance and band performances, face painting, instant photographs and a display of snakes by the Singapore Zoo to entertain visitors.

Also available will be "Everyday a Learning Day" activity booths where visitors can make items like toy cars using everyday materials and clay.

Paid guided tours will also be available showcasing the Istana's flora and fauna, and in a separate tour, its main building, selected function rooms and gifts presented to the president and prime minister by foreign dignitaries.

A mobile app, Istana Garden Walk, will let visitors do a self-guided tour.

Entry to the ground will be free for Singaporeans and permanent residents. Other visitors have to pay a $2 entrance fee, the proceeds of which will be donated to charity.

Entry to the Istana grounds is via the main gate at Orchard Road. The nearest MRT station is Dhoby Ghaut.
