Traffic speeds along the new Marine Coastal Expressway (MCE) and the East Coast Parkway (ECP) are better now even as traffic volume has crept back up, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said.

Writing in a Facebook post on Sunday, he noted that motorists are "becoming familiar with the new road network" and that he was "happy that traffic conditions along the MCE and its adjoining roads have been smooth".

Data from the Land Transport Authority shows "that even though traffic volumes have returned to the levels prior to the December school holidays, speeds along the MCE and the ECP have improved", he added.

For instance, he said, speeds "during certain time belts in the morning and evening peak hours" have, at times, exceeded the threshold of 65 km/h.
