Ideas for healthier lives - national Big Walks, healthier hawker food and physical exercise

MORE than 50 people took part in a spirited discussion tonight on how to get Signaporeans to live healthy lives.

They threw up ideas such as a national "Big Walk" every Sunday, more healthier hawker food and physical exercise at school.

This is part of the feedback sought by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to develop a healthy living masterplan for Singapore.

Dr Faishal Ibrahim, parliamentary secretary at the MOH - the man tasked with drawing up the masterplan - said he was pleased with the buy-in of the participants.

He told the media after the chat that Singapore has started this healthy journey many years back and is currently one of the leaders of healthy living in the world. In terms of childhood immunisation, for example, Singapore is among the best, he said.

He hopes to get Singaporeans to work together to not only keep this lead, but to enhance it.
