SINGAPORE - The HUDC estate at Hougang Avenue 2 has been privatised and converted into a strata-titled property under the Land Titles (Strata) Act as of Thursday, the Housing and Development Board said in a statement on Thursday.
This was after the required 75 per cent support was achieved for the move. The estate comprises 336 units at Blocks 713 to 720 Hougang Avenue 2.
The estate is the 15th of 18 Housing and Urban Development Company estates to complete the privatisation process, and the second this month. Serangoon North HUDC estate was privatised on May 8.
These estates were introduced in the 1970s for middle-income families. In 1995, it was announced that they could be privatised, to meet Singaporeans' aspirations of owning private property.
Of the three remaining estates, Hougang Avenue 7 and Potong Pasir have obtained the mandate and are currently undergoing privatisation. Braddell View, which was only designated for privatisation in January, is still in the midst of getting support.
With the privatisation of Hougang Avenue 2 HUDC estate, the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council is no longer responsible for managing and maintaining the common properties of the estate. The Management Corporation Strata Title Plan No. 3974 will be constituted to do so instead.
Individual owners in the estate will own their respective strata units, as well as the common property such as car parks and open landscaped areas, as tenants-in-common.
