Household expenditure survey continues with new batch of households

SINGAPORE - An ongoing survey to collect data on household income and expenditure will focus on a new batch of selected households from this month till April .

They are in Bukit Batok, Bukit Panjang, Bukit Timah, Clementi, Geylang, Kallang, Mandai, Novena, Sembawang, Sengkang, Tampines, Tanglin and Yishun.

Data collected from the Household Expenditure Survey (HES) will be used to facilitate studies on household income and in the compiling of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the Department of Statistics said in a statement on Tuesday (March 13).

The HES is conducted once every five years. Survey officers carrying identification cards and letters of authorisation issued by the Department of Statistics will visit the selected households.

The latest survey was launched in October 2017 and will eventually encompass 13,100 households divided into 26 groups. Lasting a year, the survey is due to end in September 2018.

All information supplied by households will be kept in confidence in accordance with the Statistics Act, the statement said on Tuesday.
