Housebreaker involved in at least eight break-ins at Cavenagh Road condo arrested

The police have arrested a 24-year-old man believed to be involved in at least eight break-ins at a condominium located along Cavenagh Road. These cases were reported since May this year.

In some of the cases, the culprit is believed to have gained access to the units by forcing open the rear door and tampering with the kitchen windows. In other cases, the culprit had taken advantage of unlocked doors and metal grille gates to simply gain entry into the unit. Valuables such as cash, mobile phones and jewellery were stolen.

Following these reports, officers from Tanglin Police Division intensified patrols in the area.

Police efforts paid off in the wee hours of Thursday morning, when officers spotted a man loitering suspiciously at the stairway of one of the affected condominium blocks. He fit the description provided by one of the affected households.

The officers approached and interviewed the man, and then placed him under arrest. A screwdriver and a pair of gloves were seized from his possession.

Anyone found guilty of the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, can be jailed between two and 14 years.
