HomeTeamNS to undergo formal review in 2016: Desmond Lee

SINGAPORE - HomeTeamNS will undergo a formal review in 2016, said president of the association Desmond Lee on Saturday (Nov 28).

"We are planning to start another formal review next year. I think it's about to take stock and review. These should be one of our key practices.

"We want to see what more we can do to support our NSmen and give them a clear sense that they are appreciated by us," said Mr Lee, who is also Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs, at Saturday's event to celebrate the association's 10th anniversary.

The formal review will involve focus group discussions to identify stakeholder insights from NSmen, to ensure that HomeTeamNS stays relevant to their needs.

HomeTeamNS is a non-profit association which recognises the contributions of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) NSmen.

Mr Lee was officially appointed as president of the association in October 2015, and had his first meeting with some 700 HomeTeamNS members during the anniversary celebration on Saturday.

He said: "We have celebrated the contributions of Police and SCDF NSmen for many years. It is a significant milestone as today we see the fruits of 10 years worth of work by the team to show appreciation for our NSmen and their families. The anniversary also coincides with SG50."

Mr Lee added that moving forward, he hopes to increase the number of HomeTeamNS members, which now stands at 180,000.

He said: "I have very big shoes to fill after taking over from Minister Masagos (Zulkifli), together with a dynamic team who spearheaded and oversaw major revitalization of HomeTeamNS, its branding, its facilities and its programmes. I will take HomeTeamNS in the same direction and see how better we can appreciate the contributions of our Home Team NSmen so that there are no unsung heroes."
