Some 32 Home Team officers were awarded sponsorships for a new degree programme in Criminology and Security at a Ministry of Home Affairs presentation ceremony on Friday.
A partnership between the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and the University of Liverpool, the full-time three-year degree course will offer modules including Social Change and Social Policy in Contemporary Society, Terrorism and Radicalism and Understanding Crime, Justice and Punishment.
It will also offer localised case studies with some modules developed or adapted to suit the South East Asian context. An agreement on the partnership between the two universities was also signed at the ceremony.
Guest of honour Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry Mr S. Iswaran said the degree programme would raise the level of professionalism of the safety and security industry as well as help meet the demand for trained personnel.
The first intake of about 40 students will begin their studies in September this year at Temasek Polytechnic which is hosting the degree programme.
