Two new City Direct bus services from Q3

Two new City Direct bus services will offer Buangkok, Sengkang and Hougang residents an express journey to the Central Business District from the third quarter. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) called a tender yesterday for a private bus firm to run these peak-hour services.

With fewer stops and the use of expressways, journey times for City Direct services are comparable to those for taking a feeder bus or LRT and transferring to the MRT, the LTA said.


Six nabbed, over $400k of drugs seized

Six Singaporeans have been arrested for drug offences after a Singapore-registered car was stopped by Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the Woodlands Checkpoint on Thursday morning.

Officers found four blocks of cannabis weighing about 4kg and one bundle of Ice of about 310g, ICA said in a joint statement with the Central Narcotics Bureau.

A variety of drugs were seized from the follow-up operation, and the estimated total worth was more than $418,000, the agencies said.


Rat woes: Eatery fails in court bid for damages

Vietnamese restaurant Saigon Times, a former Marina Square tenant, failed in its court bid to seek damages from the mall after rat woes allegedly caused its business to plunge.

Saigon Times, which operated the Saigon Baguette eatery at the mall, had claimed $249,000 in damages for loss of sales from mall operator Marina Centre Holdings and eight tenants. It claimed a series of rat-related incidents at the mall caused its business to plunge by 80 per cent.
