The team defeated 11 others en route to the final and claimed the grand prize in the largest international tournament for debaters aged 14 to 19. It was the first time a host country won the top prize in the competition. The team consisted of Chong Ee Hsiun, 18; Ernest Goh, 18; Arthur Lee, 17; Bryan Yan, 17; and Samuel Loh, 17.

S'porean arrested for using fake Thai IC

A 50-year-old Singaporean man was arrested by Thai immigration officers last Tuesday for using a fake Thai identity card (IC) to cross the Thai-Myanmar border .

Zhang Yao Zhong allegedly presented the fake IC, which had his photo but bore the name of a dead Thai man, at the Mae Sai border.

Zhang reportedly told police that a Thai man and a woman got him the IC for 200,000 Thai bhat in 2013.

His arrest brought to light a racket which produced fake ICs for foreigners to stay in the country without visas.
