SPH presents $203,000 to President's charity

As part of President's Challenge 2016 this year, the Chinese Media Group of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has raised $203,000.

The cheque was presented to President Tony Tan Keng Yam by Mr Anthony Tan, deputy chief executive officer of SPH, and Mr Seow Choke Meng, business consultant of Chinese Media Group and Times Properties, during a fund-raising event at Gardens by the Bay yesterday.

MOE releases dates for school terms, holidays

The school term next year for primary and secondary schools will start on Jan 3 and end on Nov 17.

In a press statement yesterday, the Ministry of Education (MOE) released the details of next year's school terms and holidays.

The school year starts on a Tuesday as Monday will be a public holiday.

There will be four scheduled school holidays: the day after Youth Day (July 3), the day after National Day (Aug 10), Teachers' Day (Aug 31) and Children's Day (Oct 6).

For students entering their first year of junior college (JC) or Millennia Institute (MI), school will start on Feb 3 as the O-level results are released in mid-January.

Second-year JC and MI students begin school on Jan 9.

As always, there will be four vacation periods for schools, JCs and MI.

These are: One week in March; four weeks between May and June; one week in September; and five to six weeks between November and December.
