Man charged with theft of $200k watch, cash

A 44-year-old man was charged yesterday with the theft of a luxury watch and cash in the locker room of a hotel health club.

Tan Kheng Seng allegedly stole a $200,000 Franck Muller watch, $2,000 and RM400 (S$136) from Mr Kang Hui Wah, 77, at Shangri-La Hotel Health Club in Orange Grove Road, at about 2.30pm on Wednesday.

The prosecution has applied for Tan to be remanded at Tanglin police division for investigations until next Thursday.

Tan was arrested in Jalan Sultan early on Thursday morning. The watch has been recovered. If convicted, he could be jailed for up to seven years and/or fined.

Passion Card's treat for underprivileged

To mark the Passion Card's 10th anniversary, 1,400 less privileged residents and 7,000 Passion Card members were treated to a night visit to Universal Studios Singapore yesterday.

For most in the group, the visit to the theme park was their first.

They were able to try its rides and watch a live performance at Waterworld.

The event was held from 6.30pm to 11pm.

The Passion Card is a membership card for the People's Association (PA).

Yesterday's event was the PA's first Passion Family Night-out at Universal Studios.

It was done in collaboration with Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). For every five tickets sold, RWS extended a complimentary ticket to a beneficiary to join the event.
