Burst water pipe at Braddell MRT station

A water pipe burst at Braddell MRT station at about 12.30pm yesterday. The affected area, including one of the platform screen doors, was cordoned off and water flow to the pipe was diverted. Train services were not affected.

An SMRT spokesman said the incident occurred as a result of damage caused by contractors yesterday morning. It is investigating the matter.


Seventy design pioneers honoured

Seventy pioneers in Singapore's design sector were honoured yesterday at the Singapore Design Golden Jubilee Award.

They include Mr Chua Peng Chye, 83, chief planner of Singapore's first Concept Plan from 1973 to 1976; Mr Alfred Wong, 85, who designed the National Theatre at Fort Canning; and Ms Su Yeang, 67, who designed the World Trade Organisation's logo.

Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim handed out the awards to recipients, who are designers aged 65 and above.

Dr Yaacob also announced that the Design Masterplan Committee, which was set up in March this year, will put forth its recommendations early next year.


3 face amended charge of causing grevious hurt

Three Indian nationals accused originally of murdering their compatriot at Pandan Loop now face an amended charge of causing grievous hurt.

Karthikeyan Prabakaran, 28, Thiruppathi Veerapperumal, 27, and Chellappan Sankar, 29, are alleged to have grievously hurt technician Murugaiya Suresh Kumar in the industrial estate on Aug 23 last year.
