Home Briefs: Accident coverage for carpoolers

Accident coverage for carpoolers

Local carpooling network Ryde is partnering insurer Aviva to offer personal accident coverage of up to $20,000 per car for both drivers and passengers.

This is a first, said Ryde chief executive Terence Zou, as most carpooling platforms provide coverage through the driver's own motor insurance. In a statement yesterday, Ryde said the policy covers accidents that result in death or serious bodily injury.

Worker falls to death from rooftop

A foreign worker from India fell to his death from the rooftop of a Housing Board block in Jalan Damai yesterday, said Aljunied GRC MP Pritam Singh in a Facebook post.

Police said they received a call at about 9.20am and found the 29-year-old man lying motionless. The town council will be meeting all its appointed contractors for a thorough safety briefing and open discussion, the MP said. Nine workplace deaths occurred in the first month of this year alone.
