An avid runner for more than 30 years, Mr Koh Thong Mui always enjoyed the buzz of being flagged off at events where the finishing point was the old National Stadium.

But as city races soon mapped their routes around other Singapore landmarks, it became harder to find a race that ended at the grand old dame of Kallang.

This is why the 55-year-old father of four was quick to sign up for this year's ST Run at the Hub, the first event which will have runners end their race under the dome of the new National Stadium.

More than 6,000 people have signed up since registration for the Sept 28 event opened a week ago.

Said Mr Koh, who was the first to sign up in the competitive categories: "In the past, we didn't have locations like Marina Bay or Gardens by the Bay, so most runs used the National Stadium."

The administrative assistant said he is excited and looking forward to The Straits Times event.

"It'll be like a homecoming, to finish a race at the National Stadium again after so many years," he said.

He will run the half-marathon (21km) together with his elder brother.

The event has three categories: a 5km fun run as well as 10km and 21km competitive runs. It will take participants through the city, East Coast Park and much of the new Singapore Sports Hub.

Registration fees range from $45 to $70, with all OCBC Bank credit-card holders enjoying a 10 per cent discount.
