Thousands of West Coast residents gather to exercise and try out sports

More than 2,000 residents from West Coast Cluster turned up at an event on Sunday morning to exercise together and try new sports.

The annual Community Sports Festival was organised by the community sports clubs from West Coast GRC and Pioneer SMC at Jurong West stadium. After a mass zumba warm-up, participants completed a 2km brisk walk and tried out scaled-down versions of sports such as archery tag and floorball.

Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade & Industry and grassroots adviser for Telok Blangah, was the guest of honour. He tried his hand at sports like archery and table tennis, and later said that the event was a good introduction for people who are not used to playing sports. "This is a very good opportunity for everybody to get out and learn new sports, more importantly to make new friends."

Mr S Iswaran, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry, Mr Lawrence Wong, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Members of Parliament Mr Cedric Foo, Mr Arthur Fong and Ms Foo Mee Har - grassroots advisers for West Coast, Boon Lay, Pioneer, Clementi and Ayer Rajah respectively - also took part in the sports activities.
