A member of the Red Lions parachute team had to be stretchered off after a hard landing at the F1 pit yesterday morning.

Third Warrant Officer Sim Chee Jin, who was doing a rehearsal jump for the Army Open House this weekend, suffered "some minor scrapes", the Singapore army said.

3WO Sim was quoted on the army's Facebook page as saying there was a "minor hiccup". During his landing, he got entangled in mid-air in the parachute of another skydiver who had landed first. It resulted in 3WO Sim landing on his side.

The army said on Facebook: "Even our most experienced Red Lions jumpers have to deal with elements of nature such as strong and sudden ground wind direction changes, as well as the very tight landing strip between the stage and the grandstand seats beside the F1 Pit Building."

The open house will showcase the latest army vehicles, weaponry and capabilities.
