SINGAPORE - Due to the overwhelming response to its cherry blossoms display, Gardens by the Bay will be extending its closing time to 10pm from Friday (March 25) to Sunday (March 27), it said.

Blossom Beats at the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay, which features more than 20 varieties of cherry blossoms or sakura, is on till Sunday.

Visitors to the floral display last weekend (March 19 to 20) faced a huge crowd and long queues due to the popularity of the exhibit.

The number of visitors to the Gardens "doubled" that weekend, Gardens by the Bay said.

Anticipating a large turnout this long weekend, it told The Straits Times that opening times will extended by one-and-a-half hours. The normal closing time is 8.30pm.

The extension includes Friday as it is a public holiday - Good Friday.

The Gardens' shuttle service between Bayfront MRT Station and the Flower Dome will operate till 10.30pm instead of the usual 9pm, it said.

The attraction has also put in place crowd-control measures, including "setting up queues to facilitate movement, putting up signs to inform visitors of the estimated waiting time, and activating more staff to assist on the ground".

The Gardens said: "We seek visitors' patience and understanding as many make their way here for a chance to experience sakura in Singapore," it added.
