Logging in to the free national Wi-Fi network, Wireless@SG, will take seconds instead of minutes with an upgrade to the network ready from Tuesday.
This is due to a new method that allows users to log onto Wireless@SG in a much simpler way by detecting identification information on their mobile device's SIM card.
This means users trying to connect would not need to create and key in a user name and password to log-in, like they do now. The new log-in method was announced on Friday by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information.
The number of Wireless@SG hotspots will also be doubled to 10,000 by 2015 and further to 20,000 by 2016.
The speed for Wireless@SG has also been doubled to 2Mbps.
There are currently two million users of Wireless@SG.
