Food court and fast food operators chip in to encourage tray returning

Seventeen major food court and fast food operators are joining efforts to encourage a tray return culture in Singapore.

The food operators, which make up 90 per cent of fast food outlets and 70 per cent of food courts here, will be placing "Tray Return Partner" decals at the front of the stores so members of public can identify them as tray-return-ready outlets.

Ms Grace Fu, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, officially launched the partnership at the HDB Hub Mall at Toa Payoh on Sunday afternoon.

This is the first time food places other than hawker centres are partnering the National Environment Agency in encouraging Singaporeans to return their own trays. A competition for the best designed tray return icon for the public to identify tray return outlets was also launched today. The new icon will be launched in July.
