First large drug haul of 2013 by CNB

Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) today seized the largest drug haul so far this year in a sustained operation that also saw the arrest of five suspects.

Roughly 1kg of heroin, 68g of 'Ice', 188g of ketamine, 450 Erimin-5 tablets and 98 'Ecstasy' tablets worth over $132,000 was confiscated during the two-hour operation.

Anti-drug officers conducting surveillance on a suspected drug trafficker at 7.30am this morning at Chai Chee Road arrested the 54-year-old near his flat shortly after he met a suspected drug courier. A 61-year-old woman suspected to be a drug abuser was arrested at the flat, and about 230g of heroin was seized.

CNB officers then tailed the suspected courier, a 33-year-old Malaysian man, to the vicinity of Geylang Lorong 11, where he met two men. The suspected courier was then arrested near Sims Avenue, with officers seizing bundles of cash amounting to $9,800 that was on him and about 259g of heroin that was hidden in his motorcycle.

Another group of officers tailed the two men, a 56-year-old and a 53-year-old suspected to be drug traffickers, and intercepted their car near Lavender Street. About 540g of heroin was seized from them, while 54g of 'Ice', 188g of ketamine, 98 'Ecstasy' tablets, 450 Erimin-5 tablets were subsequently recovered from an HDB unit.
