First exhibition on energy-saving devices for homes being held at Yuhua Community Club

The Housing Development Board (HDB) on Saturday launched its first-ever public exhibition showcasing energy-saving home appliances.

Meant to encourage residents to replace electrical appliances like lights with greener alternatives, the exhibit at Yuhua Community Club features air conditioners, refridgerators, microwave ovens and lighting fixtures at cheaper prices.

Minister in Prime Minister's Office, Ms Grace Fu hopes the move will prompt residents to take the first step towards a greener lifestyle, which can also help to save on utility bills. In addition, she announced that the Yuhua estate will, over the next year or so, be transformed into a "green neighbourhood".

Water and energy-saving features such as solar panels, more efficient lifts and an automatic waste collection system will be installed, she said.Residents in other parts of Singapore can also buy the discounted appliances by logging on to www.greenhomespackage.com.
