Fire breaks out in Woodlands flat; no injuries reported

SINGAPORE - A fire broke out in a Housing Board flat in Woodlands on Tuesday (May 30) morning, forcing about 15 residents to self-evacuate.

In a video sent in by Straits Times reader Gary Lim at around 7.45am, black smoke was billowing out from a seventh-floor unit at Block 619, Woodlands Drive 52.

Several onlookers were seen gathered below the block.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at 7.30am and dispatched two fire engines, a Red Rhino, an ambulance and a support vehicle to the scene.

The fire, which involved the contents in the flat's living room, was put out using a water jet.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
