SINGAPORE - A fire broke out in the bedroom of a Housing Board (HDB) flat in Hougang on Friday evening. (July 3)

A Straits Times reader Dayang Hilman took photo and video of the incident which showed flames emitting from the ninth floor unit of Block 699B at Hougang Street 52.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at 5.40pm.

The fire, which involved the contents in the bedroom, was put out using two water jets. Two people ran out of the house before the firefighters arrived.

The fire was put out some 10 minutes later, the SCDF said.

There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
