SINGAPORE - A fire broke out at an industrial building at 6 Tuas South Street 8 on Wednesday (June 7) evening.

At around 8pm, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post that it was responding to the factory fire and urged members of the public to stay away from the area.

The building houses Greenway Environmental Waste Management, a waste disposal company.

About an hour later, the SCDF said the fire, which involved general waste in an area about the size of a basketball court, was extinguished using four compressed air foam jets and two unmanned firefighting machines.

To prevent the fire from rekindling, the SCDF said its firefighters were wetting the deep-seated embers in two heaps, each measuring 3m by 3m and about 1m tall.

It is uncertain whether anyone was injured in the fire. The Straits Times has contacted the SCDF for more information.
