Fengshui gallery sues customer over $500,000 Goddess of Mercy statue

Fengshui gallery chain Lotus On Water has taken a customer to court over a Goddess of Mercy statue priced at more than $576,000.

The case opened in the High Court on Monday for a five-day hearing.

Businessman Vincent Ang Chee Soon had bought the statue in March 2011 at the gallery's Marina Bay Sands showroom, making a down payment of $100,000.

When he failed to pay the remainder, the gallery sued him for payment of the balance sum.

But Mr Ang contends that the agreed price was not for the statue alone. The businessman says the agreement was for the founder of the gallery, fengshui master Cheah Fah Loong, better known as Master Yun, to provide geomancy services for his aluminium factory, including the purchase of the statue.

Mr Ang argues that Lotus on Water breached their contract when it delivered a defective statue which was not the one he had inspected at the showroom.
