In the first half of this year, 306 victims here fell prey to Internet love scams. These victims lost a total of $17.1 million. The largest amount cheated in a single case was $2.4 million. This was a jump from the same period last year, which saw 288 victims and $11.7 million cheated.
To find out how these con artists work, The Sunday Times followed some of the Facebook and Instagram profiles that had been shared in the support group by victims as possible scam profiles so as to warn other women.
