SINGAPORE - Two people were hurt when a tree fell on their vehicles at the junction of Corporation Road and Boon Lay Drive on Monday (March 28) morning.

Pictures from the scene showed that the tree had fallen on a van and a taxi.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the case at about 10am.

A Red Rhino, two fire bikes, an ambulance and a support vehicle were dispatched to the scene.

Two people were injured but they refused to be taken to the hospital.

One of them, a taxi driver, had to be assisted out of his vehicle, said an SCDF spokesman.

The 59-year-old driver, Mr Salman  Salam, 59  told Shin Min Daily News that he was trapped in his vehicle for about 10 minutes.

His door could not be opened, but four passers-by helped him to shift the tree, he said. The damage to the taxi was substantial and the repair may take two weeks, Mr Salman added.

The 3m-long tree truck blocked three lanes and caused a traffic jam, Shin Min reported.
