National Environment Agency announces appointment of Liak Teng Lit as new chairman

SINGAPORE - The National Environment Agency (NEA) on Thursday announced the appointment of Mr Liak Teng Lit as Chairman of the NEA Board of Directors with effect from April 1, 2015.

He takes over from the current Chairman Ms Chew Gek Khim who has served on the NEA Board since 2008.

Mr Liak, who is currently the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alexandra Health System, joined the NEA Board on Jan 1, 2014, as the Deputy Chairman.

An avid environmentalist, Mr Liak is a champion for a clean and green Singapore. He is the Chairman of the Public Hygiene Council (PHC), and led the launch of the Keep Singapore Clean Movement in September 2012 to raise awareness on the state of cleanliness in Singapore.

Ms Chew has been the Chairman of the NEA Board since April 1, 2008.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Choi Shing Kwok, said in a press release: "We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Ms Chew for her leadership and valuable contributions to NEA over the past seven years. She has guided the organisation well and the development of NEA has benefited greatly from her insights and perspectives."

Apart from Mr Liak, three new members will also be appointed to the NEA Board from April 1, 2015. They are Ms Lee Huay Leng, Editor of Chinese-language Lianhe Wanbao, Dr Chitra Rajaram, Senior Vice-President of MediaCorp's Vasantham Channel and Mr Sim Gim Guan, Chief Executive Officer of National Council of Social Service.
