30 workers flee fire at food oil processing factory

SINGAPORE - Thirty workers fled a fire at a food oil processing factory at Jalan Boon Lay on Sunday afternoon.

The blaze at Sime Darby Edible Products Limited involved an unused storage tank measuring about 10m in diameter and 2m in height, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which was alerted to the incident at 3.10pm.

It dispatched two fire engines, two Red Rhinos, one ambulance and seven support vehicles and the blaze was extinguished with three water jets.

No casualties were reported.

The company is a subsidiary of Malaysia-based plantation giant Sime Darby Group.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
