Energy Market Authority to appoint new chief executive

SINGAPORE - The current deputy secretary for policy at the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Mr Ng Wai Choong, will be appointed as the chief executive of the Energy Market Authority (EMA) in April.

Mr Ng will take over the role at the energy industry regulator from Mr Chee Hong Tat, who was appointed as Second Permanent Secretary for Trade and Industry on Dec 1 last year, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) said on Friday.

Since Mr Ng took the position of deputy secretary for policy at MOF in 2007, he has been involved in developing several key fiscal initiatives including the Resilience Package, Quality Growth Programme, Pioneer Generation Package, Progressive Property Tax structure and GST Voucher.

Prior to that, he served as deputy secretary for industry at MTI from 2004 to 2007.

MTI Permanent Secretary Ow Foong Pheng said: "Wai Choong's experience in various leadership roles in the civil service has equipped him well to lead and drive EMA in developing a dynamic energy sector in Singapore."
