Energy Market Authority awards $10m in grants to develop energy sector

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has awarded research grants of about $10 million to six research teams under the Energy Innovation Programme Office (EIPO). The EIPO carries out policies aimed at the development of the energy sector.

The six projects which were awarded grants focus on ensuring that the electricity grid is reliable and resilient. An electricity grid is a network of cables which delivers electricity from suppliers to consumers.

One of the teams, led by Professor Kristin Wood from the Singapore University of Technology and Design, aims to develop a smart grid that reduces electricity consumption by its users.

The six teams were selected from 39 proposals under the grant call, and the amount each will receive varies depending on the nature of their project, said the EMA in a statement on Tuesday.
