An elderly woman was hit and killed by a CityCab taxi while crossing the road on Monday night.

She had a trolley with her and was walking towards Block 8 of North Bridge Road, where she lived, when she was hit around 8pm.

A woman at the scene, who said she lived with the victim, said the victim, 80, was single and on government assistance. The two had been living together for 14 years.

It is believed that the woman had not crossed at a traffic light near Crawford Street, but had been jaywalking.
