SINGAPORE - Instructors conducting enrichment and co-curricular activities (CCA) that last more than eight hours but less than 20 hours per contract can register with the Ministry of Education (MOE) from January next year.

On Thursday, it said that for such contracts that start from next year and extend into 2016, and all such contracts from January 2016, all schools will hire only instructors who registered with it in the second phase.

This is the second phase of registration for instructors of enrichment activities and CCA.

The first phase, which started in March, was for such instructors conducting activities that span 20 hours or more per contract at any school.

Similarly, from January next year, for such contracts, schools will engage only instructors registered in the first phase.

In March, the ministry had revealed this new requirement of registration, saying that it aims to help schools better assess the suitability of instructors.

Applicants are evaluated on criteria such as area of specialisation, qualifications and experience, and registration with a relevant professional body. They should also be at least 18 years old.

Application procedures are available at http://www.moe.gov.sg/coaches-instructors/index.php#application-registr…. Individuals are encouraged to register in the first half of 2015, the ministry said.
