Q Are the two green squares the same shade?

A The squares are exactly the same shade of green. They appear to be of different shades because the surrounding colours can trick our brain into interpreting a colour incorrectly.

Against a darker surrounding, the smaller square appears lighter. Against a lighter surrounding, it appears darker.
