SINGAPORE - The new cohort of freshmen at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will have at least five more academic courses to choose from.

They include second majors in biomedical structural biology and society and urban systems, and specialised programmes in international trading and business analytics, as well as an semester internship option for accountancy students.

The new offerings, which will be introduced in August and taught by NTU star professors such as structural biologist Daniela Rhodes, will cater to rising demand for skilled manpower in emerging fields such as biomedical sciences and big data analytics.

"As a university, we need to look into the horizon and anticipate future employers' needs so that our graduates will be well-placed to build careers not just in established areas but also in the emerging fields," said NTU Provost Freddy Boey.
