Montfort Schools turn 100

In celebration of their 100th anniversary, Montfort Schools have launched a coffee-table book with photographs and anecdotes from their history.

Contributors include former Cabinet ministers Lim Boon Heng and Lee Boon Yang. Mr Lim launched the book at the Centennial Homecoming Dinner last night.

The dinner was attended by almost 1,000 past and present Montfortians, staff and benefactors.

The book weighs in at over 180 pages and is published by the Straits Times Press. Its chronicle begins in 1916 when the school started out as Holy Innocents' English School with one class of just 20 pupils.

The school was renamed Montfort School in 1959, and split to form Montfort Secondary School and Montfort Junior School in 1974. The commemorative book can be bought at either school for $50.
