DPM Teo Chee Hean visits Qatar and Egypt to strengthen ties; and will meet Singaporeans there

SINGAPORE - Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean will be visiting Qatar and Egypt from March 6 to 9, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a press statement on Saturday.

In Qatar, Mr Teo will co-chair the Seventh Qatar-Singapore High-Level Joint Committee Meeting - a key platform of bilateral engagement between Singapore and Qatar, with Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.

"DPM Teo's visit is part of Singapore's continuing close engagement of members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, with which Singapore had signed a Free Trade Agreement that entered into force (on Sept 1, 2013)," said MFA.

DPM Teo will also meet Singaporeans living in Doha.

In Egypt, DPM Teo will meet Egyptian leaders to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and Singapore, and meet senior Egyptian security officials to exchange views on security developments in the region.

He will hold a dialogue session with Singaporean students in Egypt as well.

Mr Teo will be accompanied by a delegation comprising Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Law Indranee Rajah, Senior Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs Maliki Osman, Minister of State for Communications and Information as well as Education Janil Puthucheary, Minister of State for National Development and Trade and Industry Koh Poh Koon, and Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs Amrin Amin.

Mr Masagos, Mr Maliki, Dr Koh, and Mr Amrin will also join Mr Teo in Egypt.
